Thank you to everyone who posted, I shouldnt be surprised as you have all shown yourselves in the past to be caring supportive people to others on your flist. It feels good to know you're all out there...somewhere....

I've been trying to keep off the PC, I wanted to make sure I was there if the kids needed to talk, or to hug or just to cry. Sitting hunched over a keyboard tends to give off 'go away' vibes and I was determined not to let that happen. So... I apologise to those who I have not replied to as yet. I will do.


I'm pretty chipper....what had started as a vague and almost guilty sense of relief has transformed into an energising feeling of ...freedom. I hadn't realised how we had sunk slowly, inexorably into a pit of silent, uncommunicative inertia which made us both unhappy but unable to do anything about it. I feel like I've been given another chance at life now and I think he feels the same. Maybe we can make this work for us and the kids.

On the other hand we've not even started to dismantle our lives together yet, we will start on the finances after Christmas and perhaps things will change when we have to decide who gets to keep the painting we bought in London for our first house or the antique chest we discovered in a junk shop in Wales.....

I've spent the last few days going through the process of letting people in my life know that there's been a big change so it seems only right to let you guys know too.

Some of you know me a lot, some a little, some just as the weird woman who writes those very long fics...

Up to this monday I had three kids, two dogs, a ramshackle home and a partner of thirty years (we met on my first day at uni)

Not a lot else to say except it was a bit of a shock and we're trying to be terribly British and civilised about the split.

I will be so glad when this weekend is over. Bonfire night was November the 5th and that meant two weekends of bonfire parties in the neighbourhood and fireworks and theyre still going off now as I write!

I quite like fireworks and I much prefer our very own bloodthirsty historical Guy Fawkes night to Halloween, which is an american import that I don't think quite works here. But one of my dogs has decided fireworks are scary and we've now had over a week of him pacing the rooms and trying to hide from the bangs and whistles.

He needs to be within touching distance of one of us all the time at the moment and today tried to climb inside the dishwasher, whilst I was washing up, I assume because it was dark and contained and next to me...

He can only go to sleep curled up by my feet, which is kind of ok as a temporary measure but then the other dog gets jealous and joins him and then the bed starts to feel too small!

I'll be prepared next year and visit the vet for something to calm him....

Anyway...

Oh the neurotic firework hating dog is tommy, the black and white one on the right in my icon. His brother is Charlie and much more sensible...kinda like Michael to Lincoln.....

Seems I can't fool you guys.....here's the epilogue and I hope it ties up most of the loose ends.

I'm my usual distraught self now I've finished it. I've spent several months carrying these characters around in my head and 150,000 words later can't quite believe I won't have Michael to play with any longer.

A little request for the lurkers out there, and there must be hundreds, why not leave a few lines on the story. I try to improve my technique with every story, let me know which bits you liked and which bits left you a little blah...

Hi everyone and thank you for the birthday wishes.

I'm having a hard time with this one this year, not sure why. Maybe I'm unsettled from the L.A. trip. Maybe work is a bit of an ordeal at the moment and I have a creeping feeling that its time for a change and I need to find the energy somewhere to change things, jobs, careers, lives.... I dunno.

Maybe this is what a mid-life crisis feels like? Maybe I'm too old for a mid-life crisis because the pedant in me points out you can't know when your midlife is until you know when it ends....

Ok well thats cheery-not!

I've no plans for tonight but if even a single member of my family asks 'Whats for tea' you will probably be reading about me on CNN.....

I plan to hide away and write another chapter of Fighting Back, and will only come out if there is a takeaway on the kitchen table or a meal booked.
